I love today’s story on a number of different levels.

As with every story, it all starts with the guest editor. And today we have one of my favorite bloggers, Tobe Reed, from the great site BECAUSE IT’S AWESOME.

Be it design, typography, fashion or interiors, Tobe has fancied the arts from a young age. This led to a career in the field of graphic arts, and a passion for all things design-related. After countless years as a reader, Tobe began writing her own blog, appropriately titled Because It’s Awesome, which chronicles her many influences and admirations, and even a bit of her own work and home decor choices. Her BLOG is one of my daily reads, and I know when you click over it will be one of yours as well.

Today Tobe's writing about natural materials in the home. Technology and manmade beauty are everywhere, but there's something still so beautiful about materials indigenous to our environment. Tobe has chosen fantastic photos to show us how to incorporate good old-fashioned nature into our lives. Take a look and be inspired!

  1. Fur

Well, I prefer the faux version, but you get the idea. Nothing brings casual luxury to a room like a little bit of fur.

  2. Marble

One of those stones that looks chic in a modern or traditional setting and everything inbetween, marble is a timeless material sure to elevate any room.

  3. Wood

About as natural as they get, wood will ground a space and is especially beautiful when used to temper ultra glam pieces.

  4. Greenery

Plants really breathe life into a space. Fiddle leaf figs and palms are popular for their effortlessly chic shapes

  5. Iron

Strong and sturdy, and quite dramatic when paired with bright white surfaces.

  6. Sea Grass

As evidenced by its overwhelming popularity of late, sea grass rugs like sisal or jute are clean, classic and hold up to daily wear quite well. They're fabulous for rooms with lots of pattern and color since they don't compete for attention.

  7. Fresh Flowers

    Always, always fresh flowers.

  8. Leather

Whether in perfect condition or beautifully worn, leather is absolutely chic in all forms.

  9. Horn

Nothing sexes up a space like horn. Be it a bowl, box, serving pieces or the literal interpretation, if you're looking for a bit of edge, let this natural element do the work.

  10. Sunlight

This one almost snuck by unaccounted for, but is very obviously one of the most important elements for any space. Whether you have a lot or a little, natural sunlight is a game-changer, particularly when selecting colors and textures for a room.
