Studs: Leonardo DiCaprio. Josh Hamilton. Aaron Rodgers. Ryan Gosling. Johnny Depp.
Whoa, wait. Was that the definition of “studs” our intern meant when she suggested I do “studs” as this week’s style pick?
Maybe not. So let me start over.
Studs are everywhere this year, and initially I thought it was too young a topic for our readership. (Unless you’re one of the Twilight kids you’re not perusing $10 million houses while still in high school.) But then I started to look around and realized that studs are cool at every age, and they can add pizazz to an outfit or a room.
I’ll reveal my boring side and admit my favorite studs are earrings. Although I’ve been known to sport quite a bit of bling on my ears, my gold ball “look-ma-I-just-got-my-ears-pierced” studs are my everyday earring. I’m madly in love with the very affordable line of jewelry from EDDIE BORGO. Pictured above are the studded cuffs and simple earrings. And, of course, HERMES makes the classic studded cuff. Stack a bunch of them together if you have the budget.
Studs are all over bags and shoes. Alexa Chung, always cool, showed us how it’s done in Valentino’s studded shoes. The VALENTINO STUD LOAFER is the perfect combination of demure and fetish. Aldo makes less expensive STUDDED SANDALS that are one of my favorite sandals of the season in any price range. And at $50 you pretty much can’t go wrong.
Of course BALENCIAGA is probably the most famous of the studded bags. (See style icon Nicole Richie carrying Balenciaga in our circle photo.) This year I also adore the FENDI DAISY CLUTCH. Oh my gosh, tell me there’s a more beautiful clutch than that one.
Finally, since runway often inspires home fashion, studs have found their way into home fashion as well. Kelly Wearstler’s STUDDED VASE is a perfect statement piece for any console or table and I adore West Elm’s STUDDED MONOGRAM PILLOWS.
So, like our real life studs, fashion's studs come in all shapes, sizes, and price ranges. And be sure to check out our PINTEREST BOARD for more studly examples.
