Our Favorite London Real Estate

The torch was just extinguished a few hours ago, and if you’re anything like us you’re already missing spending your nights in London.

Though we can’t take the place of Michael Phelps’ record swim medals or Misty and Kerri’s prowess on the beach, we can try to make the transition away from London back to normal a life a bit easier by performing in our strongest event: Real Estate.

We spent lots of time on our favorite London real estate sites and picked a few stand-out houses for you to look at and know you’ll be “wowed” – whether you’re really looking for a London getaway, inspiration for your own house, or just a little Monday procrastination.

A few introductory notes before we let the houses take over:

Notice that the trend in London is modern kitchens in the centuries-old properties. Modern kitchens aren’t as trendy in the US (yet), but we think they’re beautiful, so if you’re in the market for one we know you’ll find some for your inspiration board in our listings. (And if you don’t, call us! We’ll find some for you.)

Secondly, you’re going to notice London prices are a little, well, on the high side. Why? A number of different factors, but one of the key ones is the influx of wealth foreign buyers in the market. London is a hotbed for investors looking for a safe haven for their money and young international trust funders seeking a play place. In addition, it’s a great second home for those who live in the Middle East and are looking for a pied-a-terre in Europe. Interestingly, so many of the highest luxury homes are purchased by foreigners that on some of London’s most upscale blocks all houses will be dark most of the time, the only lights on in the basements where staff keep watch on the property.

Finally, one other cool thing about London: One of the status symbols is the indoor swimming pool. We tried to pick one or two listings with them so you could see how the Brits do the pool.
